The Noble Family Steak House is a chain of steak restaurants throughout Taiwan. The concept is very simple, and you don’t need to speak Chinese. Basically you order your meat, and help yourself to the “all you can eat” salad, fruit and drinks bar.
On each table under a glass cover is a huge menu with a picture and a price of each meat. There are dozens of different types of steak, but also pork and chicken steaks are available. Descriptions are in Chinese and English, and staff are happy for you just to point. At the bottom of the menu is a marker how well you would like your steak cooked E.g. rare, well done or medium.
Once your order is made, you can go up to the salad, fruit and drinks bar and help yourself to as much as you like. There are also soups and noodles available. The main meat is usually bought out within about 5 – 10 minutes on a sizzling hot plate.
Nobel Steak House isn’t exactly fine dining, but for NT$250 – NT$300 you can get a decent cooked steak with as much salad, noodles, soup, and fresh fruit as you want. It all comes with no fuss and the staff in the Kaohsiung branches are very friendly and tolerant of non-Chinese speakers.
As per normal in Taiwan, the waiters leave your bill on the table. You simply take it up to the counter on the way out and pay. Again, English is not needed.
