The Ho-ping campus is situated right opposite the Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Centre. It is located in a lovely, beautiful open space. - The University has 5 colleges: College of Education, College of Humanities, College of Science, College of Technology, and College of Creative Arts.
Studying Chinese Mandarin as a Foreign Language
If you are planning to study Chinese Mandarin at the University, they offer very reasonable group prices and is an intensive study course. You will need to commit to 15 hours per week (9.00-12.00, Mon-Fri). They will focus on speaking, reading, writing and listening.
The University teaches Traditional Chinese Characters (rather than the Simplified Characters). The whole of Taiwan uses the Traditional Characters so if you are planning to live here it will make it easier to get around and read things like the road signs and food menus. The Taiwanese say it is an advantage to learn the Traditional Characters first rather than the other way round. They can also help you to apply for a study visa/ARC to stay in Kaohsiung. If you contact their Centre of Language and Culture Teaching, you will find they are extremely helpful in answering any questions.
