Learning Mandarin Chinese in Kaohsiung

Studying Chinese in Taiwan is a great alternative to Mainland China. For a start, the climate is much warmer all year round, especially in Kaohsiung, which has very mild winters.

Taiwan is a democratic, progressive and open society, it’s very safe and very friendly. The cost of living is low and the infrastructure is modern and solid.  The Taiwanese accent is also very clear and generally accepted as being a high standard.

Useful Information

If you study for more than 15 hours per week in Taiwan, then it is possible to apply for a study visa.

However, many English teachers teach for 15+ hours per week which allows them to apply for a 1 year residence visa. Therefore, it isn’t necessary to study for the minimum 15 hours.

Travellers from the UK can enter Taiwan visa free for 3 months at a time. Therefore, it is also practical to study at some languages centres using this method of visa entry.

To renew the “visa free” entry, travellers must simply leave the country and return. This can be done within one day. Hong Kong is a popular destination for “visa runs“.
