About Changhua

Changhua County is in the mid-western part of Taiwan. The Bagua Mountains forms the border between Changhua and Nantou Counties.  It has a population of about 230,000.

Changhua used to be home to a tribe of Babuza people (Taiwanese aborigines) for many centuries. The name of the city comes from the aboriginal word “Poasoa“.

Things to See and Do in Changhua

The Great Buddha

Throughout the county, you can see beautiful sceneries of mountains, hills and water. The Great Buddha on Bagua Mountain is the main attraction and is definitely a must see for all tourists. It is 26 metres tall and overlooks the city.

Tien Wei Flower Field

Tien Wei Village Flower Garden is a great place to relax and take a walk. The area produces a huge quantity and variety of flowers. Some people call it “The hometown of flowers“.

There are some activities and education programs for all visitors, including planting flowers, stone engraving, art activities, and tea making.

You can enjoy riding a bike through the gardens. The total area of the garden is 341 acres. The gardeners use electrical lights at night to keep the flowers open, so it can be enjoyed during the day and evening.

Xi Hu Sugar Factory

Xi Hu Sugar Factory train is a popular tourist attraction. The train is about 30 minutes long and you can see lots of plants and flowers along the way. There is normally a guide to explain the history of the sugar factory.

Train Schedule:

  • 9:00 am; 10:10 am; 11:20 am; 13:00 pm; 14:10 pm; 15:20 pm; 16:30 pm; and 17:40 pm
  • Only on weekends and national holidays

Confucius Temple

The Confucius Temple, Chunghua was built in 1726. The Temple consists of the main hall (Dacheng Hall) and the east and west wings. Many locals come to pray and worship here so it is a peaceful environment.

An interesting place to visit due to the intricate craftsmanship and the majestic scale of the temple.
